Presentation of 'Cypriot Medieval Coins,History and Culture' at XV International Numismatic Congress

Every six years, the big International Numismatic Congress takes place, under the auspices of the International Numismatic Council. Every six years, hundreds of numismatists from all over the world come together. Every six years, numismatics is the predominant sight in a specific city. This also held true for Taormina as the venue of the 15th International Numismatic Congress, organized by Maria Caccamo Caltabiano, with the assistance of Mariangela Puglisi. The event was organised by the University of Messina, under the leadership of Maria Caccamo Caltabiano in collaboration with International Numismatic Council and other Italian Universities. The congress consisted ten parallel sessions: General Numismatics; Communicating Numismatics; Ancient Greek coins; Roman coins; Other ancient coins; Medieval European and Byzantine; Modern Western European; Islamic, Asian and African; Oceanic and New World ; Medals. Eleni Zapiti, Project Coordinator of the 'Cypriot Medieval Coins,History and Culture' digital library presented the project  at the XV International Numismatic Congress held in Taormina, Sicily between the 21st and the 25th of September 2015.

Cypriot Medieval Coins History and Culture is a novel digital library dedicated to the study, promotion and dissemination of the history of Medieval Cypriot Coinage (12th-16th centuries). The project is the development of the ongoing collaboration between the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and Cyprus Institute which originally began in February 2012 with the pilot implementation of the advanced Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) photography on a big part of the collection of the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage.
